Mining monument plans approved by BRAG committee

18 April 2010

At the Committee Meeting of Blackwell Residents’ Action Group last week, plans were approved for the “A” Winning Mining Monument. The plans feature two half-wheels mounted on a plinth from the original Blackwell Colliery Offices and other features include a plaque commemorating “A” Winning Colliery, solar-powered LED lights and flower beds.

The drawings are available on the website to view and the plans will also be displayed at Blackwell Local History Weekend on Saturday 15th May from 10am – 4pm and Sunday 16th May from 10am – 2pm at Blackwell Community Centre.

The group has appointed Andrew Tebbs as Project Manager, who has outlined the planning process that now needs to be undertaken to give permission for the monument to be constructed. This will take approximately six months, which gives an estimated construction date as Autumn 2010.
